Ensure Regression Assumption Tests Are Conducted Thoroughly

Regression assumption tests are a crucial step in regression analysis aimed at ensuring the adequacy of the regression model with the data used. Conducting comprehensive assumption tests is necessary to validate the reliability of the estimation coefficients produced.

In practice, there are several assumptions that must be met, such as normality, homoscedasticity, linearity, non-multicollinearity, and autocorrelation (for time series data). If any of these assumptions are not met, the estimation coefficients produced may become biased or inaccurate.

For example, if there is a violation of the homoscedasticity assumption, where the variance of the model errors is not constant, then the standard error coefficients and statistical significance tests may become invalid. Therefore, without conducting thorough assumption tests, the interpretation of regression results may be incorrect and lead to unreliable conclusions. One consequence may be estimation coefficients that should be positive but turn out to be negative.
